Activites Fun Facts Save The Clouded Leopards The clouded leopard (neofelis nebulosa), also called mainland clouded leopard, is a wild cat that has large dusky grey blotches and irregular spots and stripes reminiscent of clouds. These cats primarily live in the tropical evergreen rainforests. however, if they find suitable prey, the clouded leopards can live in dry forests, scrublands, grasslands or mangrove swamps. the clouded leopard has been found in the higher altitudes of the himalayan mountain range. Clouded leopards occupy tropical forests at elevations up to 3000 meters. they are highly arboreal, using trees primarily for resting and also for hunting. however, they spend more time hunting on the ground than was originally believed. Clouded leopards prefer to live in lowland tropical rainforests. however, they can also be found in dry woodlands and secondary forests, and in borneo, they are reported to live in mangrove swamps. The population of clouded leopards declined sharply in the latter half of the 20th century as a result of hunting and deforestation. they are reported to be nocturnal and to live in trees; they prey on birds and on small mammals, such as pigs and monkeys.
