Paper Plate Weaving Facebook Molly Maloy To do paper plate weaving, begin in the center with a new piece of yarn and weave it over and under each strand of the yarn loom. as you add rows, slide yarn toward the center as you go so that there aren’t any big gaps. With this activity, you can weave any shape you want! all you have to do is use a cookie cutter or allow students to free hand a drawing of a shape on the back of the plate. then you use your yarn needle to poke holes along the shape of your drawing about ¼ of an inch apart. In the art room, this project has become a rite of passage for my fourth grade students but can easily be created by kids as young as second grade. 2. the instructions include tracing a shape onto the plate, poking the needle through along the line and stringing yarn through to stitch around the shape. 3. the project uses common materials like paper plates, yarn, and a needle to provide a low cost craft for children's activities.
