Two charter school leaders of color explain how their identities and experiences have shaped how they designed their schools and the steps they’ve taken to build a school environment where students can not only learn, but grow and thrive. Three charter school leaders of color explain how their identities and experiences have shaped how they approach family engagement and how they aim to include families in the school community and in their children’s learning. Due to our robust partnership with marion military institute (mmi), students at breakthrough will have access to gold standard leadership development opportunities, including participating in trainings at mmi’s leader reaction and obstacle courses, civic mentoring programs with the mmi honor guard, age appropriate dilemma discussions. Established through a charter—a performance contract detailing the school's mission, program, goals, and methods of assessment—charter schools are designed to foster innovation and provide diverse educational options to meet the unique needs of their communities.
