Why Penn Bioengineering Penn state’s biomedical engineering (bme) program is currently the university’s fastest growing engineering sub discipline. we prepare students for a career in biomedical engineering, a field that is expanding rapidly as an aging population increases demand for new medical devices and procedures. To satisfy the requirements for a concentration, students must select at least 4 courses from any of the categories listed below. at least two courses must be from bioengineering. The penn state biomedical engineering department is one of the fastest growing departments within the college of engineering. our curriculum is built upon the apex of engineering, medicine, healthcare policy, and biological discovery. She has held various leadership positions including serving as the president of the biomedical engineering society. her research program focuses on studying the role of cellular forces and tissue mechanics in the progression of cancer and atherosclerosis.
