Parent Reading Workshop Reading Assembly Teaching Resources We sent parents who were not able to attend the workshop a video of the presentation to ensure they had access to the information. i have also included a ppt to a reading assembly titled ‘why read?’ that i took to promote our new reading spine. These pages are aligned to module 10, week 2 (dolphin parenting; can we be friends?) for grade 5 and will guide you through the reader's workshop, vocabulary, and spelling sections of the reading program.

Parent Reading Workshop Reading Assembly Teaching Resources In these sessions children practise the sounds and read a book together in a group specific to their ability. children talk a lot about what they have read to show they understand and listen to and discuss other ideas to deepen their understanding. children will bring home a book either every 3 or 5 days depending on their group. They should be reading a range of genres and reading out loud to enable them to develop expression, intonation, confidence and fluidity in their reading. this should not stop even when a child becomes an independent reader. These workshops equip adults with specific questions to develop one of the four reading skills. consistent implementation of family workshops enhances both the quality and quantity of at home reading time while fostering meaningful conversations between family members and children. These two mini workshop presentations (30 to 45 minutes each) will motivate parents to get more involved in reading with their children and teach them skills they can use to maximize the benefits of reading together.
