Overview Indy Autonomous Challenge
Indy Autonomous Challenge The iac is a broadly collaborative effort that brings together public private partnerships and academic institutions to challenge university students around the world to imagine, invent and prove a new generation of automated vehicle software to run fully autonomous racecars and inspire the next generation of stem talent. Over the four years of on track iac competitions, the challenge has advanced to include two competitive events. beginning in 2021, individual time trials are run by all teams over the course, and the event is scored with the fastest lap achieved in five minutes on an oval track.
Indy Autonomous Challenge The indy autonomous challenge (iac) is an international research competition advancing the state of the art in autonomous racing through the deployment of full scale, high speed autonomous vehicles on iconic motorsport circuits such as the indianapolis motor speedway (ims) and las vegas motor speedway (lvms). The world witnessed a historic event at ces 2025 — the indy autonomous challenge (iac) successfully conducted the world’s first multi car autonomous race. These autonomous race cars must navigate the 2.5 mile ims oval at speeds often exceeding 170 mph — without human intervention. while the indy autonomous challenge is rooted in motorsports, its implications reach far beyond the track. Join us on september 6, 2024, at the indianapolis motor speedway for the indy autonomous challenge, a landmark event in automation and innovation, where the racing capital of the world will host the world’s fastest autonomous racecar competition.

The indy autonomous challenge (iac) is a technical competition involving 9 teams from 21 universities competing in a series of challenges, some for up to a $1 million grand prize, to develop software and systems capable of controlling fully autonomous racecars at speed. The team tum auton omous motorsports will participate in the indy autonomous challenge in octo ber 2021 to benchmark its self driving software stack by racing one out of ten autonomous.
