This systematic review aimed to synthesize quantitative evidence on the physiological and psychological outcomes observed in second generation descendants of individuals exposed to collective. This systematic review is therefore essential to bridge existing gaps by providing a comprehensive synthesis of the diverse and fragmented body of research on intergenerational collective trauma, encompassing a broader range of trauma types and descendants’ outcomes beyond those previously explored. I shall argue that when traumatic features intrude the mnemonic chain of family transmission, the transition from the micro to macro level, and back again, is far less easy and coherent than it is usually thought. This study explores the intergenerational transmission of religious trauma across three generations within five families, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to capture the complexities of trauma manifestation, transmission mechanisms, and coping strategies.
