Tecnezo Figure 2 schematically illustrates our current understanding of how the earth's energy budget is closed on a global and annually averaged basis. An update is provided on the earth's global annual mean energy budget in the light of new observations and analyses.

The energy budget for the global annual mean is determined by the net radiant flow of energy at dif ferent wavelengths through the top of the atmosphere and at the earth’s surface. This diagram illustrates the flow of energy through earth's atmosphere. it shows how energy contained in sunlight warms our planet, and how this energy becomes temporarily trapped as it flows away from earth's surface as longwave infrared radiation. Figure — details of earth's energy balance (source: kiehl and trenberth, 1997). numbers are in watts per square meter of earth's surface, and some may be uncertain by as much as 20%.

Here we provide a new assessment of the global mean energy fluxes from a surface perspective and present an associated diagram of the global mean energy balance, adapted from the study by wild et al. (2013) [1] with two slight modifications as outlined in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to put forward a new estimate, in the context of previous assessments, of the annual global mean energy budget. a description is provided of the source of each component to this budget. the top of atmosphere shortwave and longwave flux of energy is constrained by satellite observations. (kiehl el al.). from publication: utilization of remote sensing and gis techniques for diagnosing irrigation water resources: a review | irrigation has the largest share of water exploitation. Schematic diagram of the global mean energy balance of the earth. numbers indicate best estimates for the magnitudes of the globally averaged energy balance components together with their uncertainty ranges, representing present day climate conditions at the beginning of the 21th century.
