Nvme Overheating General Support Unraid Hello all, i just updated to 6.10.0 rc2 and noticed that i'm now having issues with my nvme cache ssds spike up from 31 c to 84 c. i use this cache drive for docker containers. When receiving my sm953 nvme, i tried running them without heatsinks. while temps were between 32c and 40c most times, under reasonably heavy loads the temps increased enough to set off unraid temp alerts.

You could add a fan blowing over the nvme’s heat sink to lower its temperature. if your motherboard layout has space, you can buy an nvme heat sink that has a cooling fan built in, such as the thermalright hr10. I just started to use unraid a couple of days ago and now every time i log on in the mornings i get about 30 notifications that my cache drive overheated to 84c and then instantly returned to normal when the server was idling all night with no writes do the disk. I have a vm running windows where the hard drive is directly passthrough to one of the nvme ssds on my system. the drive is not assigned to the array or a pool. my issue is that this drives keeps reporting back a temp of 84 degrees for a period in unraid, even though the drive itself is cool to t.

Hello, my cache nvme keeps getting hot (57º degress celsius) all the time, even when the utilization is low (10%). all the others temps from the hd, ssd, cpu e gpu are normal. I’ve had my unraid server for the past several years, and it’s had an ssd cache drive for almost that entire time. however, at the beginning, my cache drive was definitely an unexpected bottleneck in my system. here’s what happened and how i fixed it. a cache drive was supposed to speed up file transfers on my nas ssds are faster than spinning disks, right?. Nvme runs hot in general and some boards come with built in heatsink covers. you can get a cheap heatsink that stickies on or there are ones that make it more of an enclosure. Pool is raid0, so not redundant, that means you cannot to a direct device replacement, since there's enough space you could convert the pool to raid1 first then do a device replacement. would i want this as raid1? i like having the extra space to handle big downloads. but again the nvme keep overheating so needs to be replaced.
