Navigating Space Law Eumetsat Currently, the mtg programme is well underway – the first satellite of the programme, mtg i1, was launched 13 december 2022 – so lauth’s focus is also on the legal aspects of another cutting edge satellite programme, the eumetsat polar system – second generation (eps sg). The legal architecture governing space activity is composed of three primary and interrelated types of legal instruments that, together, create a robust legal framework that navigates the complex terrain of space law.
Navigating Space Law Eumetsat One of the main questions facing space law is how to regulate space resource activities, since actors will need a precise legal framework to develop their commercial activities. To understand the future ahead, however, we need to consider the state of space governance now. here, we outline the current legal systems which collectively comprise the global space governance system while critically identifying and explaining the deficiencies within those systems. Each chapter offers a unique insight into how countries are responding to these challenges – whether by adapting existing airspace and telecommunications law, creating bespoke licensing regimes for space operators, or participating in international forums shaping the future legal order. The office provides information and advice, upon request, to governments, non governmental organizations and the general public on space law in order to promote understanding, acceptance and implementation of the international space law agreements concluded under united nations auspices.
