Natures Role In Supporting Resilience
Nature S Resilience Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute Nature based solutions including urban forests and wetlands can help communities cope better with climate change and other environmental stressors by enhancing social ecological resilience. Discover how nature's processes bolster resilience in biological and social systems, aiding mental well being and sustainability. learn how harnessing nature can mitigate climate change impacts.
Nature S Resilience Smithsonian Photo Contest Smithsonian Magazine Given the multiple contributing factors in building resilience, we set out a goal to identify which factors were most supportive of a causal role by the current literature. Social ecological systems underpinning nature based solutions (nbs) must be resilient to changing conditions if nbs are to contribute to long term climate change adaptation. we develop a two part conceptual framework linking social ecological resilience to adaptation outcomes in nbs. 10 communities around the world show how embracing nature makes them stronger and helps them adapt to climate change. Some of the gravest threats we face are the ones that just keep coming back. see strategies nature has developed to survive and even thrive through relentless adversity.

Acting as a moderator or buffer, nearby nature or green space may have the potential to attenuate the relation between risk and health, to dampen negative health outcomes among vulnerable populations and ultimately, thereby, to reduce health disparities. Nature based solutions (nbs) are actions that address societal challenges, climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable devel opment, to protect and restore native ecosystems for benefits to biodiversity and people (cohen shacham et al., 2019; iucn, 2020). Nature, in its unyielding beauty, isn’t just a backdrop to our lives; it’s a profound teacher. the concept of resilience—our ability to recover from adversity—is deeply woven into the fabric of the natural world. The evidence supporting nature’s role in enhancing mental resilience is compelling. numerous studies have illuminated how engagement with natural environments can significantly buffer the effects of psychological stress and improve mental health outcomes.
