My advice: scan the map, make several copies, and try different color and paint schemes. i did this and i found that a light watercolor can really make your map look like something of fantasy!. I just started it about an hour ago. my first crack at mapmaking, and it'll eventually be done and have a campaign to go with it! i got a lot of style ideas from a combo of wasd20 and questingbeast. hope it looks decent so far. i'll post more as i draw more. hand hurts now haha! cheers.
