Dry Hop Disaster Homebrew Talk Beer Wine Mead Cider Brewing I've learnt my lesson, all the fermenting kit has been through the dishwasher and thoroughly soaked in cleanser for over an hour. i won't be lapse on cleanliness again. What’s your disaster story? ok, we’ve all had those brewing days where nothing seems to go right. not just running out of propane…you know, the kind of day where you wonder why you’re doing this! but we power through and keep brewing. for our april fools show, we’re looking for stories of brew days gone wrong…really wrong. In my early days of homebrewing, i vividly remember the excitement of crafting my first batch. however, that anticipation swiftly turned to disappointment when i opened my bottles only to find flat, lifeless beer staring back at me. i often wondered, what did i miss in the process?. This was the night before my first all grain brew that i was brewing with 5 other guys. first time on my system, first all grain, and then brewing in a different enviroment (ie. not at home) so i had to make sure i took absolutely everything with me.

Today (well, like 5 minutes ago), i opened the top of my freezer to pour my first cold brew, and heard an odd scraping noise. confused, i closed the top to see if it would make it again, and sure enough, the same short scraping noise. I followed the alco coke recipe (using my lhbs own brand wine instead of the youngs yeast) sg was 1059. almost 7 weeks later at 22c the thing was still bubbling (about 1 every 50 seconds). My friend immediately grabs a garbage bag, covers the keg and wraps the opening of the bag tight around it, like you'd fill a helium balloon. he's struggling to keep the beer contained in this contraption, so i grab a garbage can, trying to imagine what i can do with it to help. I'm just branching out of extract brewing and just carefully brewed a witbier following most style standards, but after that i'm brewing an absurd saison stout hybrid with wild rice just for the hell of it.
