Muse Nasa Science One way to do so is by developing mission specific outreach programs that tackle fundamental science questions and topics that are relevant to the sun earth system. as a new and budding example, we introduce a mission embedded outreach program for nasa’s multi slit solar explorer (muse) mission. Designed by lockheed martin in our advanced technology center (atc) in palo alto, ca, muse was selected by nasa in february 2022 as one of two missions that will study the sun or its surroundings to better understand its impact on earth and our atmosphere. Led by lockheed martin solar and astrophysics laboratory, the muse mission is a collaborative effort managed by the explorers program office at nasa’s goddard space flight center in greenbelt, maryland. this management is conducted for the heliophysics division of nasa’s science mission directorate. Muse will take images and study the solar source of the plasma (a superheated state of matter that makes up much of the sun) in the corona that the parker solar probe and solar orbiter spacecraft travel through.
