Mse Wall Coping This handbook provides essential guidelines for inspectors of mechanically stabilized earth (mse) walls. it includes definitions of key terms and construction requirements such as the use of various materials like coping, reinforcement types, and backfill specifications. The wall system consists of the original ground, concrete leveling pad, wall facing panels, coping, soil reinforcement, select backfill and any loads and surcharges. It provides 3 typical wall section drawings showing the reinforced concrete coping, geotextile, drainage systems, backfill and relationship to adjacent structures. The coping is placed atop mse wall facing panels to provide a smooth, aesthetically pleasing, and clean line at the top of the mse wall. in accordance with iss 901.10, mse wall copings may be either pre cast concrete (e.g., figure 24a) or cast in place concrete (e.g., figure 24b).

The coping is placed atop mse wall facing panels to provide a smooth, aesthetically pleasing, and clean line at the top of the mse wall. in accordance with iss 901.10, mse wall copings may be either pre cast concrete (e.g., figure 24a) or cast in place concrete (e.g., figure 24b). For temporary mse wall applications black steel may be used; however, if the temporary mse wall is to be exposed for more than 5 years, galvanized welded wire similar to the 2 stage mse wall application is required. Top of wall (small block wall) or top of coping (large block wall) "if rock is encountered in the proposed reinforced backfill area or wedge area of the mse wall before or during excavation, the contractor shall immediately cease excavating and notify the engineer.". There are many difference scenarios where mse or retaining walls are present. the following examples describe some of the most common scenarios.
