Mouth Of Madness Event Horizon Metal Eclipse Reviews While their “curious take on metal” rings hollow, a solid cut like “at the heart of the unknown” does demonstrate that mouth of madness has potential. as with any artist, i will always want to see that potential realized, and i look forward to the day i can recommend mouth of madness to all. When mouth of madness explores more melodic ideas, it gets genuinely interesting—so a bit less of the stick and more of the carrot would’ve been nice. also—and you already know what i’m going to say—take away all those “atmospheric” interludes and give me a proper track!.

Mouth Of Madness Event Horizon Metal Epidemic
Mouth Of Madness Event Horizon Metal Epidemic

Mouth Of Madness Event Horizon Metal Epidemic The five out of nine songs on event horizon that have actual vocals are pretty damn impressive. all five of them have a great old school swagger with doomy, thrashy, blackened death metal done in a fairly original way. Bar a handful of questionable decisions, mouth of madness emerge anew as a mighty exemplar of the black arts. at every note, i could see the waters run crimson at the shoreline, masses of cut throats spilling out offerings to run past the cloven hoof of satan, ever watchful. Their musical work relies on a form of old school thrash black metal with an updated shape, with clear influences of sodom and kreator on their prime, but with many personal features being shown along with the natural clichés of the genre. Founded back in 2013, germany’s mouth of madness have been deep under the metal radar, or at least this is my first encounter with this metal duo from berlin. in the meantime, while preparing this review, i could read that they’ve only released one, a haunting self titled ep in 2016.

Mouth of madness ’ “ event horizon,” is a really interesting album that’s against the grain enough to satisfy us metalheads but engaging and imaginative enough to make even skeptics raise their eyebrows a bit at this. While their “curious take on metal” rings hollow, a solid cut like “at the heart of the unknown” does demonstrate that mouth of madness has potential. as with any artist, i will always want to see that potential realized, and i look forward to the day i can recommend mouth of madness to all. The production on “event horizon” is crystal clear and well thought out. the guitars are bright and forward, interacting with snapping snares and mid range heavy bass drums with a strong bass guitar presence that isn’t totally drowned out in the mix. Fazit: mit event horizon legen mouth of madness ein starkes debütalbum vor, das stilistisch vielseitig und atmosphärisch dicht ist. es fordert hörer*innen heraus, belohnt aber mit einem eigenständigen klangbild.
