Modeling Climate Resilience In Coastal Communities Puget Sound Institute Magel will co develop a qualitative network model to support scenario planning, management strategies, and adaptation pathways in response to environmental challenges such as climate change. Up next: film exploring collaborative approach to natural resource conflict to debut october 17.

Modeling Climate Resilience In Coastal Communities Puget Sound Institute The talk is hosted by the puget sound institute and will look at how the suquamish tribe is using models such as modflow and velma to manage groundwater and stream flows. This article is the latest in a series about computer models and their uses within the puget sound ecosystem. today, we look at the salish sea model, one of several models in the region helping to predict water circulation, water quality and food web relationships. With partners, our puget sound coastal resilience project studies six deltas across puget sound. we’ve developed a cutting edge “wave model” to explore the role natural habitat plays in reducing the impact of storms. Working with a diverse set of communities, metrics have been developed and mapped to help decision makers evaluate and detect areas of vulnerability and resilience and opportunities for adaptive management.

With this funding, the collaborative will strengthen local and regional capacity, partner with coast salish tribes to increase regional understanding of climate change impacts, and establish a knowledge base of climate preparedness resources. We are widely recognized for scientific discovery, as an experienced creator of impartial & actionable science and as a catalyst for building regional climate resilience. we work to develop the scientific data, tools, guidance & capacity needed to manage climate risks. Participation in the collaborative is open to local, county, and tribal governments and regional public agencies in the puget sound region with an interest in climate preparedness. Geographic variability of projected change: sea level rise is projected to be greatest in puget sound and parts of the pacific coast. natural variability in storm surge and waves will continue to contribute to coastal flooding in areas where these processes are substantial.
