Mircore Democratize Medical Research Mircore, a non profit educational organization, runs a research training experience for academically motivated 8th – 12th grade students interested in computer science, math, natural sciences, and medicine, for an opportunity to learn about the role of genomics in disease. Mircore, which focuses on computational biology, aims to generate testable hypotheses about disease causes, biomarkers, treatment options, and prevention based on rna profiles. Our vision: anyone should be able to initiate medical research that matters to them. our mission: to advance science and medicine by advocating personalized medicine and democratizing medical research. we cannot easily change gene sequences, but we can change gene expressions. A physician scientist and microbiologist, his research focuses on host defense mechanisms, fungal pathogenesis, and the development of antibody based therapies for infectious diseases. date: saturday, april 18, 2026 (12:00 pm – 5:30 pm eastern time | 9:00 am – 2:30 pm pacific time) location: hybrid (online or one of the following in person sites). Mircore has instilled in all of us the importance of science, compassion, and collaboration. there are several different philosophies that can explain how to best go about carrying out such values, but they aren’t all the same. This virtual and in person workshop is for middle schoolers and 9th graders anywhere interested in genes, public health, and computational biology research. students will learn about molecular biology topics and foundational computational biology tools, using hands on activities to solidify concepts.
