Metop Services Eumetsat
Metop Services Eumetsat Direct data, products and services are directly disseminated from eumetsat’s metop satellites and the us national oceanic and atmospheric administration’s low earth orbiting satellites to a data user’s reception station. the data source is the satellite as it passes over the user's field of view. •continuation and enhancement of service from mid morning polar orbit in 2025 – 2046. •significant contributions to other real time applications: nowcasting at high latitudes; marine meteorology and operational oceanography; operational hydrology; air quality monitoring.
Metop Eumetsat The eumetsat polar system (eps) consists of the esa developed metop (meteorological operational) series of spacecraft and an associated ground segment for meteorological and climate monitoring from polar, low earth orbit, providing "morning" service for operational meteorology. The data and products from eumetsat's metop second generation (metop sg) satellites will continue and enhance vital contributions to weather forecasting, and climate and environmental monitoring. Eumetsat successfully launched the first satellite of the eumetsat polar system second generation (eps sg), developed as a collaborative program between eumetsat and esa, on 13 august 2025 at 0037:50 (utc) on an ariane 62 launcher. eps sg is europe's contribution to the noaa eumetsat joint polar system, continuing and expanding midmorning orbit observations provided by the metop satellites. Eumetsat’s mission control centre has officially taken the reins of the metop second generation a1 (metop sga1) satellite, following the successful completion of the spacecraft’s launch and early operations phase (leop). this press release features multimedia.

As part of gras ionospheric data quality assessment, eumetsat made available metop a onboard topside and ro gnss data (i.e., dual frequency carrier phase and code pseudo ranges) as well as derived products such as the amplitude and phase scintillation indices and bending angle data. The service module on the satellite provides the main satellite support functions, such as command and control, communications with the ground and orbit control and propulsion. the data acquired by the metop satellites are continuously recorded on board using solid state storage technology. In this work, a new tomographic reconstruction method has been developed to describe the plasmasphere using metop (meteorological operational) data. Eumetsat operates two satellites, metop b and metop c, that increase the accuracy of life saving weather predictions by providing essential worldwide observations of the atmosphere, ocean, and land.
