Activities at home: maths is everywhere • look at door numbers bus numbers • maths exercise – child to choose an action, count • board games with dice • counting while you are cooking e.g three teaspoons • questioning e.g can i have 1 more? can you tell me the number sentence?. Use timers, phones and clocks to measure short periods of time. recognising numbers on the clock. can you identify the missing number if one is covered? can you cut your toast into 4 pieces? can you cut it into triangles? setting the table. counting the right number of plates etc. how many more do we need?. The purpose of this workshop is to gain a better understanding of how the reception delivers mathematics sessions through short, fun and interactive games. we will talk about how you can help support your child at home and show you simple resources which can be used to do so. Complete the maths challenge card to support your child’s understand and use mathematical language. count footsteps when walking (can you count to 20 50 60? give you children mathematical problems eg: when shopping ask your child to pick up 4 apples, how many apples will we have if i get 2 more apples?.
