Materials World On Twitter The E Zine Of The February Issue Is Live Materials world modules (mwm) is an educational program designed to supple ment traditional science, math, and tech nology courses for middle and high school students. Sixteen classroom modules describe how materials and their properties can solve global problems and transform our everyday lives. module topics cut across science disciplines and link them to engineering, math, and technology applications. Launched at northwestern university in 1991, mwm develops modular instructional content to supplement pre college stem curricula. thirteen modules have been published to date on. Kits: contain the basic materials that a class of 24 to 32 students (eight groups of three students or four students) will need to run the activities and design projects outlined in the modules.

The materials world modules (mwm) are hands on, inquiry and design based units for middle and high school students that have been used by over 100,000 students in schools across 49 states. The mwm program is relevant because the modules bring the latest research topics to the classroom and emphasize the historical development of products and technologies through human efforts. students are provided with a broader perspective on scientific topics as they develop their research skills. Students will plan and conduct investigations into changes of state, and design solutions to identified needs using various materials while considering sustainability and constraints. they will learn about the roles of people working in science and technology occupations. The materials world modules (mwm) program uses a unique approach based upon design and inquiry to unite the abstract, quantitative methods of scientific inquiry with the concrete methods of technological design to help students develop and integrate these complementary skills.
