Mary White Glass Artist Educator Started working in glass in 1968 at the california college of arts and crafts (now cca) in oakland, ca. mary b. white is a california bay area sculptor arts educator, co head of the crucible glass department in oakland and serves as chair of the board of the women environmental artists directory. At this time in my life and career as an artist educator, i am most interested in the intersection of art craft, environmental sciences, arts education and peace making. my early training is in the field of craft, specifically glass, ceramics and metals. In july of this year, the crucible’s glass department co head, mary white, concluded an ambitious eco artistic project six years in the making. five thousand pounds of foundation concrete, stone, and 144 panels of drilled glass now rise 18 spired feet alongside a gushing boulder creek in colorado. Mary teaches at the crucible fire arts center glass department in oakland, ca and much of her work links art making with social and environmental issues. she has a mfa in glass and painting from california college of the arts.
