Climate Resiliency Plan The city of markham is working with cook county to create a climate resiliency plan following a community driven process, engaging residents and stakeholders to understand climate hazards, set goals and identify and prioritize actions. Funded by the american rescue plan act (arpa), this initiative will assist five county communities—bellwood, franklin park, justice, lynwood, and the city of markham—in creating climate resiliency plans and turning them into reality through project design and construction.

This nearly $16 million program was announced earlier this year and will improve climate resiliency in the villages of bellwood, franklin park, justice, lynwood and the city of markham over the next four years. Establish a repeatable, transparent, stepwise process that enables the community to prioritize strategies and actions to mitigate the impacts of climate change. protect and nurture prairies and parks to absorb rainfall, mitigate heat, and provide accessible, scenic space. Over the next three years, we will develop climate resiliency plans that will help our community prepare for more frequent and severe weather events like rainstorms, higher temperatures, and. These funds would drive workforce development, stimulate economic growth, and address the local impacts of climate change by improving air quality, lowering energy costs, and creating more resilient communities.
