Literacy Flow Diagram Teaching Cogs It is an educational programme that uses symbols and a highly visual framework to teach children how emotions work. different aspects of emotion, including triggers for that emotion, and behaviours and bodily sensations linked to that emotion, are placed in a different coloured cog. We use emotion works as a teaching tool to develop emotional literacy. this involves introducing emotion words (using the visual symbols that come with the pack) and helping the child identify events and ‘triggers’ that prompt these emotions. Red cog – body sensations: the sensations we notice in our body when we feel an emotion. yellow cog – triggers: the things that happen to cause or trigger an emotional reaction. The model of emotion (cog model) is a visual curriculum that scaffolds the emotion works teaching and learning programme. the model contains 7 different coloured cogs and each of them represent a different aspect of emotion to look at and learn about.
