Lenten Reflection Psalm 23
Lenten Reflection Psalm 23 My Gen X Life This lenten video reflection on psalm 23 is about offering our fears and anxious thoughts and concerns to god and receiving god’s presence. So apparently for this year, psalm 23 can be used both as a lenten reflection and as an easter reflection. we can see why and how it can fit both a penitential season of preparation to see christ on the cross and a jubilant season of easter victory on the other side of that cross.
Lenten Reflection Psalm 23 Amy Julia Becker Psalm 23, perhaps the world’s most famous poem, speaks the lenten language of struggle, grief and death. but it speaks them to the drumbeat of god’s sufficiency and the rhythm of grace. Its opening lines, “the lord is my shepherd, i lack nothing… he makes me lie down in green pastures,” offer a picture of peace, safety, and provision. these verses resonate because they speak to our deepest longing: to be cared for, guided, and restored. But tonight, as we come to our final wednesday night, we receive something beautiful psalm 23. it’s as if psalm 23 answers the question isaiah placed before us. Lent is the 46 day period between ash wednesday and easter. it’s meant to be a time for confession, repentance, grief, fasting, and meditation on scripture — preparing our hearts to celebrate resurrected life with jesus on easter.

There are so many ways in which this psalm speaks to me, but for today’s reflection, i want to focus on the first two verses. i am a runner and over the last 40 years, my running has been a way for me to escape into nature, pray and be with jesus without the many distractions of life. Psalm 23 isn’t just a song of comfort and consolation. it’s also about heroism and the world set to rights. whenever psalm 23 comes up in the lectionary, i remember a canoe trip on a long, flat stretch of the yampa river in northern colorado. Join us in prayer today as we reflect on psalm 23 during the sacred season of lent. I came to appreciate psalm 23 as a precious gem to be featured in the season of lent. jesus is the lamb of god, and we often highlight this part of his identity during lent.
