Learning Trajectories Pdf Learning Teachers Kate fanelli introduces the learning trajectories concept for math. if you are a school or school district in michigan and interested in evidence based math. This site was developed to help anyone interested in supporting young children's early math learning with research about the steps children typically take to learn math.

Learning Trajectories We go there often to learn more about the trajectories and to get ideas for activities and tasks. now, we're talking about this new book we have on math trajectories for young children. In this important new book for pre and in service teachers, early math experts douglas clements and julie sarama show how “learning trajectories” help diagnose what mathematics a child knows. The document describes learning trajectories and their use in guiding children's mathematical development. it has three parts: 1) a mathematical goal, 2) a developmental path to reach that goal through levels of understanding, and 3) activities to help children progress between levels. As a simple example, children first learn to crawl, which is followed by walking, running, skipping, and jumping with increased speed and dexterity. similarly, they follow natural developmental progressions in learning math; they learn mathematical ideas and skills in their own way.

Figure 1 illustrates a part of the learning trajectory for counting. the developmental progression column provides both a label and description for each level, along with an example of children's thinking and behavior. Children learn to match, name, describe, represent, construct, and classify two dimensional ("flat") geometric shapes, increasingly using mathematical properties of the shapes. In this article we present a systematic review of the recent literature on learning across contexts, and specifically on learning trajectories. Draw on the learning trajectories to assist in sharing your insights about children’s learning, development and wellbeing, and encourage others to talk about and share their perspectives.
