From Kgw Tv Portland Japanese Garden Exploring Themes Of Healing With The japanese cultural and community center of washington is an organization committed to preserving, promoting, and sharing japanese and japanese american culture and heritage in seattle, wa. Kintsugi (golden joinery) is the japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki e technique. Jen lo, from bellingham, facilitated a workshop introducing kintsugi, a japanese art form of mending pottery after it's been broken. the process takes weeks, if not months, as the lacquer and rice or wheat paste cure for long periods in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Established in 2003, the japanese cultural & community center of washington (jcccw) is dedicated to preserving, promoting and sharing japanese and japanese american history, heritage and culture.
