The ministry of justice (moj) released the ‘ai action plan for justice’, published 31 july 2025, outlines their three year strategy to outline how the department intends to leverage artificial intelligence (ai)i to enhance the efficiency, fairness and accessibility of the criminal justice system. Embedding ai across the justice system is one of three strategic priorities of the plan, which also covers establishing a dedicared ‘justice ai unit’ and investing in staff and partnerships. A dedicated justice ai unit will be led by the moj’s chief ai officer, with input from its data science, digital and transformation teams. a cross departmental ai steering group will provide oversight and an ai and data ethics framework.
