We are thrilled to announce that artists john torres & shireen seno (b.1975, 1983, philippines) have been chosen as winners of the third han nefkens foundation, mori art museum, m , hong kong and singapore art museum – moving image commission.

To date, torres has made five feature films and over a dozen short films in the past ten years. a special focus of his works has been shown at the viennale, seoul, cosquín, and bangkok. John torres plans to experiment with “parasitical filmmaking strategies” as the starting point of a series of works he intends to realise throughout southeast asia. Torres doesn’t overplay the terrorism angle (he doesn’t have the budget to, anyway); he keeps it all at a background murmur, and it helps add to the verisimilitude, to the sense that this – this is manila in the second millennium.
