High School Jazz Combos The Jazzschool It's a pretty amazing event; 8,000 students compete over 3 days in various categories of middle school, high school and college big bands and jazz combos. it's been held for 53 years at the university of nevada, reno. Looking to take your jazz playing to the next level? our jazz combos are designed for middle and high school musicians who want to strengthen improvisation skills, expand jazz vocabulary, and make music in a fun, supportive small group setting.

I play with them in our school jazz band and they sound great. but when it comes to the self initiated jazz combo it feels sloppier, not really together at times, and generally not the best. i've tried to implement trading bars, stop time, a written soli solo, but it doesn't work out.
