J.c. leyendecker joseph christian leyendecker (march 23, 1874 – july 25, 1951) was one of the preeminent american illustrators of the early 20th century. he is best known for his poster, book and advertising illustrations, the trade character known as the arrow collar man, and his numerous covers for the saturday evening post. The arrow collar man was the name given to the various male models who appeared in advertisements for shirts and detachable shirt collars manufactured by cluett peabody & company of troy, new york.the original campaign ran from 1905–31, though the company continued to refer to men in its ads and its consumers as "arrow men" much later.
