It S Not Right Google Just Saying If it’s a personal question about what it’s like to be x type of person then i can understand saying “just google it,” but it’s an understandably hostile response in that situation. The "just google it" meme, while intended as a joke, perfectly encapsulates how google has fundamentally altered our expectations and behaviors around information seeking.

Something Is Just Not Right So despite best intentions, you're actually just making the other person wait for you to phrase your question, which is lost productivity (and kinda annoying). the same goes for: "hello, are you around?" "hi sophie quick question." "you got a sec?" "yt?" just ask the question! 😫. "just google it" is a very condescending sentiment that can't really be expressed in a way that doesn't say "i don't want to talk to you, i don't want to communicate with you or be around you, and i think you're an idiot for not doing all the research yourself.". If you answer someone's question with "google it" you are essentially saying that helping them is not worth your time and that makes you an asshole. edit: i'm talking about in person situations, or with people you know personally. If you ask someone a question hoping that they'll talk to you and their answer is "google it," that's the equivalent of saying"i don't want to talk to you." because if they wanted to talk to you they'd be happy to answer your question.

I like the tactic of “i don’t know, let’s google it” better than saying some snark comment of how you should do it yourself. it’s especially better if you are actually engaged in the conversation, yet if your not, a simple i don’t know obviously sets the mood straight. If someone asks you a question they probably want you to answer it. so saying 'just google it' is as rude as refusing to answer a question. the question itself can change the context though. for example if it's a personal question i don't think it's rude at all to refuse to answer it. How can we be sure that what they’ve written is right? can you just blindly go with a statement to be right, when it claims something? is every result that pops up on your search engine result is supposed to be true? let’s find out what the google executive himself has to say. In such situations, i typically ask them to present their sources, at which point they usually respond indignantly with something along the lines of, “just google it,” “look it up yourself,” “do your own research,” or “so you expect me to do your work for you?.
