She then took a step back… and she came up with intersectionality. this theory casts the net wider it. it looks not just at a single attribute of people, but at people's economic and social identities as instances of something more abstract. there are many groups and identities we all belong to.

Intersectionality There are two main arguments from the core notions of intersection ality to the claim that intersectionality leads to ontological fragmentation: one starts from the notion of inseparability, and the other from the notion of mutual constitution. This article begins by reviewing how intersectionality has been conceptualized, as well as the implications of varying definitions attributed to intersectionality. Addressing these questions, this special issue reflects upon the genesis of intersectionality, engages some of the debates about its scope and theoretical capacity, marks some of its disciplinary and global travels, and explores the future trajectory of the theory. Intersectionality arose in reaction to both white feminism and the then male dominated black liberation movement, citing the "interlocking oppressions" of racism, sexism, and heteronormativity.

What can we learn from intersectionality? although intersectionality originated as a way for black women to adapt and relate to feminism, the lens of intersectionality can be used to understand a wide variety of social interactions and complex social hierarchies. 2 related work this work is situated at the intersection of prior hci research concerning design for self reflection, neurodiversity and its intersectionality, and conversational technology design. Intersectionality sheds light on the unique experiences that are produced when various forms of discrimination intersect with these converging identities. Our reflection on whether intersectionality retains its radical origins has been informed by our analysis of what happens to intersectionality as it travels across space and time and in different migration related communities of knowledge.
