Implementing I Respect Program Darwin Youth Services Darwin youth services has successfully implemented the i respect domestic and family violence prevention youth program on the tiwi islands for the past 18 months, engaging young people in meaningful discussions and activities that promote respect, healthy relationships, and violence prevention. The safer me, safer you project has been working in partnership with darwin youth services to support the introduction of the i respect program, to support students to learn about safe relationships.

Implementing I Respect Program Darwin Youth Services This model illustrates how the inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact of the “i respect” program work together to address dfsv and promote healthy relationships within aboriginal and torres strait islander communities in the northern territory. Typically, this program is conducted in a circle with a group of young people. however, we can customise it to suit any environment, ensuring flexibility to meet the specific needs of your group or presented to individuals. This theory of change outlines the pathways through which the “i respect” program aims to achieve its vision of creating safer and more resilient communities by empowering young people and promoting positive change at individual, community, and systemic levels. I respect is a program designed to encourage young men to discuss healthy relationships and healthy manhood. this program aims to create a culture where young people discuss and define what healthy relationships are, and learn about consent, non consent and coercion.

The clontarf foundation, which aims to improve the education, life skills, and employment prospects of young aboriginal and torres strait islander men, has been fortunate to collaborate with darwin youth services in engaging our young men in this impactful program. Both programs are an early intervention program focused on promoting respectful relationships and preventing domestic and family violence. My work on tiwi used an adaption of a program called i respect, with additional elements of sosafe to work with students from the high school. i respect is a program designed to encourage young men to discuss healthy relationships and healthy manhood. The darwin youth action plan 2019 was developed through listening and engaging with young people, key stakeholders and government partners through the establishment of the darwin local action group.
