Sir Geoff Hurst In 2002, mcdonalds pledged to support uk grassroots football and appointed sir geoff hurst as director of football. since that time their campaign to provide quality coaching to more youngsters in more communities across the uk has seen over 20,000 coaches trained and over two million hours of free coaching to over one million young players. The mcdonald's fun football programme will provide over one million 5–11 year olds with the opportunity to enjoy free football coaching and will deliver over 10.5 million hours of fun football over the course of the next four years, making it the largest grassroots participation programme in the uk.
Sir Geoff Hurst Football is now available in 80% of areas of greatest need in the uk and we are working hard to increase this. in 2024, with the support of british blind sport and uk deaf sport, we launched visual and hearing impaired sessions and, in partnership with access sport, pan disability centres.
