This research article presents an extended version of a conference paper [4], aiming to provide a comprehensive analysis of human–robot collaboration in smart manufacturing. This research tackles hrc from an engineering and a management point of view, in terms of safety protocols, integration of digital twin, augmented reality (ar), and collaborative robotic. To identify open questions in the field of cobots and human–robot collaboration in manufacturing systems, the authors analysed all the selected studies and summarized the opinions of the authors in the conclusion of each study.
