Hubbles Servicing Mission 2
Hubble After Servicing Mission 2 1997 Nasa Science Overview hubble’s second servicing mission greatly improved the telescope’s productivity, with the installation of new instruments that extended hubble's wavelength range into the near infrared for imaging and spectroscopy, allowing us to probe the most distant reaches of the universe. The goal of this 10 day operation was to enhance hubble’s scientific capabilities for discovery by conducting a number of maintenance tasks and refurbishing the existing systems.
Servicing Mission 2 Sm2 Nasa Science The second servicing mission, launched feb. 11, 1997, greatly improved hubble's productivity. the installation of new instruments extended hubble's wavelength range into the near infrared. Hubble's second servicing mission, sm2, was less reparative and more focused on what engineers had intended when they designed the telescope to be serviceable: upgrades and boosting. A collection of images from hubble’s second servicing mission, sts 82 (february 1997). This web site describes the hubble space telescope and its operations, images, and results.

Also known as shuttle mission sts 82, servicing mission 2 was launched in order to maintenance the hubble space telescope (hst) and install additional scientific instruments. The second servicing mission (sts 82) took place in february 1997. the primary goal of the second servicing mission was the replacement of two first generation scientific instruments (fos and ghrs) with two new ones (nicmos and stis). The hubble space telescope's second servicing mission comes to an end. hubble returned to its orbit as an improved observatory, and the space shuttle discovery safely landed back at kennedy space center. The hubble space telescope, orbiting 353 miles (569 km) above the surface of the earth, was the first telescope designed to be visited in space by astronauts.
