How Cells Decide Their Fate Metabolism In Cancer Cells Inside My Lab At Msk Dr Lydia Finley
Metabolism Of Cancer Cells And Immune Cells In The Initiation The finley lab investigates how cellular metabolic pathways regulate cell fate decisions in stem cells and cancer cells. Dr. lydia finley’s lab at the sloan kettering institute studies how metabolism influences the way cells grow, specialize, and sometimes become cancerous.
Medical Physiology News The goal of this review is to discuss how the field of cancer metabolism provides a framework for revealing principles of cell metabolism and for dissecting the metabolic networks that allow cells to meet their specific demands. Inside my lab, we study metabolic pathways in stem cells and cancer cells. we're interested in understanding how cells make decisions. and we're interested in that specifically in the context of differentiation. so how does a stem cell decide to differentiate and become a more specialized adult cell?. One approach to killing cancer cells is starving them to death by preventing them from getting nutrients, especially glucose. our investigators anticipate that deciphering how cancer cells access and use fuel will enable development of new treatments. Many of the features that distinguish cancer cells from normal cells—aberrant proliferation, survival, migration, and cell fate control—are either directly controlled by cell metabolism or amenable to regulation by specific metabolites.

The goal of this review is to discuss how the field of cancer metabolism provides a framework for revealing principles of cell metabolism and for dissecting the metabolic networks that allow cells to meet their specific demands. Here, we discuss the metabolic programs that support proliferation, and we explore how metabolic states are intimately entwined with the cell fate decisions that characterize stem cells.
