Founded in 1979 to support the restoration of the buxton opera house, this 18 day not for profit event has earned acclaim as one of the uk’s leading arts festivals, blending rare operatic gems with orchestral masterpieces, soulful jazz sets, and thought provoking book talks. Buxton international festival has announced its 2026 opera season. first up is “la traviata,” as the company seeks to complete its verdi cycle. the production is created in collaboration with norwich theatre and is directed by james hurley. adrian kelly conducts the buxton international festival orchestra.
