Created 73 years ago in 1953, the usaf thunderbirds are the third oldest formal flying aerobatic team (under the same name) in the world, after the french air force patrouille de france formed in 1931 and the united states navy blue angels formed in 1946.

History Thunderbird Aviation From 1969 to 1973, the thunderbirds flew the air force's front line fighter, the f 4e phantom. The air force thunderbirds have carved out a unique niche in the annals of military aviation history. their precision flying, technical prowess, and cultural impact have not only elevated the standards of aerial demonstration but have also left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of millions. From 1969 to 1973, the thunderbirds flew the air force's frontline fighter of the time, the f 4e phantom ii. in five seasons, the team performed more than 500 demonstrations while traveling to 30 of the 50 states, canada, central america, and europe. The thunderbirds disbanded for a short time in 1990 when the united states and its coalition partners invaded kuwait and iraq during operation desert storm. following the end of hostilities, the team was brought back together and soon began flying the more advanced f 16c. From 1969 to 1973, the thunderbirds flew the air force’s front line fighter, the f 4e phantom. in 1974, the thunderbirds converted to the t 38 talon, the world’s first supersonic trainer. the t 38 was more fuel efficient and less costly to maintain than the larger f 4. North american indians has imagined a thunderbird as a sky creature resembling an eagle or a hawk which ruled the sky powers, ordered victory in the times of war, casting thunders and lightings from its eyes. until the end of 1953 the thunderbirds performed 50 air demonstrations.
