Glenside Free Library Updated February 2026 215 S Keswick Ave On february 23, 1974 a referendum was passed to begin the glendale heights public library district. the library district’s boundaries were the same as those of the village. the first board of trustees was appointed by the dupage county board. A collection of over 300 audio interviews with people who have helped shape dallas history or been eyewitnesses to events of historical significance. some of these recordings have been digitized and or transcribed.

1982 Library Glenside Library During the 1960s and 1970s, the city built 17 new branches. the current central library building opened in 1982 and was built with emerging technology in mind. it was one of the first libraries in the country to have an online catalog system and to offer state of the art audio visual capabilities. Dallas public library holds one of the largest and comprehensive collections for family history research in the southwest. many of the library branches hold special book collections like spanish language, lgbt resources, and african american history. Initiated by the dallas federation of women's clubs, the library grew out of, among others, a grant from steel tycoon andrew carnegie. it became a war information center during wwii, and the decades after its expansion led to the creation of new branches in other parts of the city. The city of dallas is served by the dallas public library system. the system was originally created by the dallas federation of women's clubs with efforts spearheaded by then president mrs. henry (may dickson) exall.
