Welcome Burien Creative District The idea of a creative district had been discussed in burien for more than ten years before it became a reality. the following is a brief history of the most recent work leading up to official certification by the washington state arts commission. Establish a unique identity, which builds on existing history and culture, which creates a marketing opportunity for burien. create the opportunity to attract more arts and cultural resources which serve as an economic engine for investments and employment opportunities.
Welcome Burien Creative District The burien creative district (bcd) was created to foster collaboration and strategic partnership with arts organizations as well as businesses and the community. Incorporated in 1993, burien contains some of the neighborhoods that developed from homesteads settled in the 1870s and 1880s once military road was cut through between fort steilacoom near tacoma and seattle. European settlement in the burien area dates to 1864, when george ouellet (1831–1899), a french canadian born in sainte marie de beauce, quebec, purchased his first of several land patents for homestead sites directly from a federal land office. [10]. By creating a comprehensive marketing campaign, the creative district can support local businesses, drive more tourism and make burien a place for destination travelers.

On saturday night, june 17, 2023 at the highline heritage museum, creative types and supporters gathered to celebrate the official designation of burien as a creative district.
