Freedom S Way National Heritage Area Announces Hidden Treasures 2023 This book is dedicated to the founders of the freedom’s way national heritage area: marjorie “marge” darby, who devoted countless hours to bring the idea of a national heritage area to life and posthumously, mildred “millie” chandler, who dreamed of celebrating the unique stories of the women within the national heritage area. The over 2,600 nhls found in the u.s. today come in many forms: historic buildings, sites, structures, objects, and districts. each nhl represents an outstanding aspect of american history and culture. The heritage area includes sites significant to the american revolution, cultural sites associated with ralph waldo emerson and henry david thoreau, and native american sites.
