This eid, let us also take a moment to acknowledge and support the diverse identities within the muslim community, particularly our lgbtq brothers, sisters and non binary friends.

As muslims celebrate the festival of eid, there are lgbtq muslims of various denominations, who may find themselves alone on this holiday. cut off from their biological families, some find community amongst online friends. As the holy month of ramadan comes to an end and muslims around the world are gearing up to celebrate eid al fitr by gathering and feasting with family, friends and neighbours, lgbtq. During this time, muslims, including lgbtq muslims, fast from dawn until dusk and are encouraged to pray, read the qur’an and give to charity. we hope the reflections offered every week starting may 27 until ramadan culminates in eid al fitr on june 25, will bless souls, revive spirits, renew minds and strengthen bodies.

A portmanteau of pride eid, preide is a celebration of lgbtq muslim identity. it began with a simple idea: our holidays are colliding! maybe we should celebrate being queer and muslim. I have been to a muslim organization at my school twice for ramadan eid and it went really well, i'm not out to anybody except for a few friends, and i feel like i get along with other muslims pretty well as long as i don't discuss my sexuality since i'm not ready to do that yet. On monday, we will celebrate eid again, this time with biryani and 60 muslims and non muslim friends, both lgbt and straight, with love, laughter and acceptance, poetry and song.
