Greening Humanitarian Response Project This paper, developed in partnership with glow (pakistan) and the pacific islands association of non governmental organisations (piango) (fiji), presents our vision for a green humanitarian system. These priority actions are designed to deliver meaningful climate and environmental impact. they include both practical, easily implementable steps and more ambitious initiatives that can help drive transformative change across the humanitarian sector (see list below).

As we anticipate an increase in heatwaves and forest fires, the pressing question becomes whether our current humanitarian system is adequately prepared to respond to these complex challenges. Jochum: there are three big areas for humanitarian organisations to curb emissions. the first is energy systems and buildings. this is an area where the technology exists (mainly solar and wind), the know how exists, and the return on investment is getting faster and faster. During this webinar, a group of humanitarian donors launched the common donor priority actions for greening humanitarian assistance. these priority actions are designed to deliver meaningful climate and environmental impact.

"greening" refers to the integration of climate and environmental considerations into humanitarian response by identifying, assessing, and mitigating their impacts on our work. This research paper is intended to support the humanitarian community to understand how key barriers can be overcome and how ingrained practices can shift. Foster partnerships between humanitarian and development actors to enhance multilateral cooperation and integrated policies in forestry and energy sectors for displaced and host communities. Two critical agendas have emerged as essential responses: localising humanitarian action to empower crisis affected communities and integrating environmental sustainability to reduce the sector's carbon footprint.
