Governance Budapest Process It brings together the main donor states of the budapest process, the leading hosting countries for the working groups and the european commission. in addition, other participating states are invited upon request. On 11 12th november 2024, ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials from 50 countries and 13 international organisations convened in budapest and agreed to a joint vision of migration governance, endorsing a new ministerial declaration and call for action.

Overall, strong support was expressed by all the budapest process member states to the draft texts as they aligned with their national priorities and reflected a balanced and holistic approach towards migration governance. A dedicated workstream on migration and displacement governance, covering asylum systems and durable solutions, positions unhcr as a key inter agency actor, with one of the main results groups focusing on international protection. The analysis identifies five key characteristics of the bp that contribute to its governance role: uniqueness, engagement, common purpose, projects, and knowledge exchange.
