G Bwmf Gloster Meteor T 7 Operated By Private Operator Taken By The meteor later entered service with the royal navy, but only as a land based trainer, the meteor t.7, to prepare pilots of the fleet air arm for flying other jet aircraft such as the de havilland sea vampire. The meteor set records for airspeed and first innovations like ejection seats and turboprop engines. the museum's meteor t7 (wa591; a two seat trainer) was produced in 1949 at hucclecote, gloucestershire, uk.
Gloster Meteor T 7 The meteor t 7 was a development of the f.4 powered by two rolls royce derwent 5 turbojets. unlike the f 8 single seat fighter, the cockpits were not pressurised, but some t 7s, as they were designated, were fitted with an f 8 type tailplane as opposed to that fitted to the f.4. The gloster meteor t mk.7 was a two seat trainer, based on the meteor f mk.4. it was designed as a private venture by gloster, in the aftermath of the first large overseas order for the meteor. in 1947 argentina ordered 100 meteor f mk.4s, and the pilot training to go with them. This meteor was taken on charge by the raf as a t.7 in 1951 with s n wf877 and struck off charge in 1953. it went to martin baker in 1964 and was converted to a t.7 (mod) for dummy and live ejector seat trials. One of the first jet fighters, the gloster meteor became operational in july 1944 with both the f.mk.i & iii variants seeing service by ww2’s end in 1945. the meteor t.mk.7 was developed post war as a 2 seat training version. Designed by sir frank whittle in november 1940 it became the first british jet powered fighter plane with single gloster e28 39 engine, the prototype having its maiden flight on 15th may 1941. The gloster t mk7 was an unarmed two tandem seat training aircraft based on the mk 4 variant. it had been designed as a private venture by gloster's in recognition of the need for a "lead in" training aircraft for pilots who would be operating future single seat jet fighter aircraft. On 1 february 1953, the iaf and gloster signed a deal for 11 meteor f.8s and 4 training t.7s. these were the first aircraft the iaf had ever purchased from the manufacturer instead receiving secondhand aircraft. the first two meteor t.7s arrived on 17 june 1953.
