Globular Cluster Observing Program Astronomical League The goal of this observing program is for you to observe or image and compare the structures of globular clusters, and to that end, you can use manual (finder scopes and star hopping techniques), digital setting circles or any other computer aided go to systems. For many amateurs, globular clusters represent some of the most visually appealing deep sky objects. this observing program, based on a list compiled by joe goss, concentrates on globs a total of 50 gems. the table below includes name, constellation and visual magnitude.

This guide helps the amateur astronomer understand globular clusters, provides information necessary to complete the globular cluster observing program and contains descriptions of 190 globular clusters. Imagine a night sky with thousands of stars brighter than sirius! black holes of low stellar mass (10 20 solar masses) may be common at the center of globular clusters. they have been detected (2012 2013) in m22 (a pair) and m62 by detecting radio emissions using the very large array. The hubble missing globular cluster survey (mgcs) is meant to continue this legacy, adding new clusters to the sample. the mgcs is an hst treasury program (go 17435; pi: massari) dedicated at observing kinematically confirmed galactic globular clusters that lacked suitable hst imaging data (massari et al., 2025, hereafter paper i).

Globular cluster observing project. this project was initiated in the summer of 2023 and is the first official al observing program that i undertook. it was originally submitted on july 20 th, 2023, with 52 objects. the list contains 3 of the al challenge object list: ngc 4147, ngc 5053 and ngc 5466. Python programs for analyzing globular cluster catalog and instances. the intention for this project is to be the repository for a variety of python libraries and scripts that can be shared with participants in an observing lab called exploring globular clusters that will be presented both in person and virtually as part of robert ferguson. When viewing a globular cluster you are looking at the remnants of the early stages of galactic formation and evolution, laying and skimmering at immense distances away at the outer edges of our milky way galaxy. The globular cluster visual catalog, or gcvc, provides you a direct view of the globular clusters as they can be imaged with amateur’s telescopes. the basic data of ra, dec and magnitude are available at the amateur astronomer who wants to look at or photograph a specific globular cluster.
