The global ocean observing system (goos) status report 2025 highlights the status of goos observing networks, as well as progress in strengthening the world's capacity to monitor the ocean, understand and adapt to a changing climate, improve operational services, and protect ocean health — all of which underpin sustainable ocean economies and the safety and well being of societies worldwide.

Global Ocean Observing System Geo The global ocean observing system (goos) provides countries and end users with critical information on physical, chemical, and biological essential ocean variables, aimed at delivery for climate, operational services, and ocean health. Goos is a collaborative platform with six key components that help define ocean observing requirements, coordinate observing networks, and ensure the flow of data and forecasts. Goos was established in 1991 with the vision of providing accurate descriptions of the present state of the oceans, continuous forecasts of the future conditions of the sea and the basis for climate predictions. Scientists use different observing technologies and instruments to measure and observe the global oceans. aoml works with partners around the world to develop and maintain key components of these systems of observing technologies, known collectively as the global ocean observing system.

Global Ocean Observing System Goos Goos was established in 1991 with the vision of providing accurate descriptions of the present state of the oceans, continuous forecasts of the future conditions of the sea and the basis for climate predictions. Scientists use different observing technologies and instruments to measure and observe the global oceans. aoml works with partners around the world to develop and maintain key components of these systems of observing technologies, known collectively as the global ocean observing system. The global ocean observing system (goos) is a global system for sustained observations of the ocean comprising the oceanographic component of the global earth observing system of systems (geoss). [1]. This is only possible with the sustained collection of a key set of ocean observations. the global ocean observing system (goos) coordinates international efforts to collect these essential ocean variables (eovs), which span physics, biogeochemistry, biology and ecosystem realms. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the global in situ ocean observing systems for measuring physical essential ocean variables (eovs), including all the major platforms, and the efforts of the international coordinating programs. As a collaborative intergovernmental body, geo is dedicated to co producing user driven earth intelligence solutions.
