With access and support from the only university science facility in the galapagos, researchers can test hypotheses and gather integral data to tackle global challenges that can be shared locally, nationally, and globally.
Genomics Laboratory Galapagos Science Center The 20,000 sq. ft. gsc facility houses five laboratories, each with a dedicated research focus: marine sciences, human health and ecosystem, genomics, data science and visualization, and animal health laboratory. The galapagos science center (gsc), is a multidisciplinary research center located on san cristóbal island, which has been created thanks to the collaboration between usfq and the university of north carolina chapel hill ( unc) for scientific development in the galapagos islands. Host interdisciplinary research projects thanks to partnerships with the galápagos national park and other local public institutions. several flagship projects have been strategically selected to provide hands on learning experiences for local and international students. This interdisciplinary initiative aims to sequence and assemble whole genomes of galapagos species and use them in population genomics, taxonomic assessments, and phylogenetic studies.
